The House of Lords Chamber
When invited to assess an ornamental ceiling at the Tudor House Museum in Worcester, events took a sudden and dramatic twist – in several directions.
Initial research proved that the 450-year-old plaster modelling was in fact a unique example with important historic references for the city and wider industry. It also found that the ceiling was in immediate danger of collapse.
Peter’s talk follows the investigation and captures the moment the ceilings future was almost lost. It examines the history of plaster ceilings from Hampton Court Palace to an important Abbots Priory and comparing examples where reference has been gained. It also follows the urgent restoration works and how for once COVID 19 may have helped.
